Just a stone throw away from Frankfurt main train station, is one of the most famous burger places in town. ‘Der Fette Bulle’ (or ‘the fat bull’) is not a regular burger place, but instead a fancy burger restaurant. Loved by travelers, for a hearty meal after a long journey, enjoyed by party folks for a good late night eat and appreciated by burger snobs for the quality.

The restaurant is proud of their buns, baked fresh every day, their made from scratch sauces, their high quality burger patties and creative burger ideas.

Unlike many other burger places, manager Yasar Gür is happy to provide table service instead of self-service. Local beef or chicken, Portobello mushroom or Falafel burger, it’s hard to decide what to order in between the buns. The house-made ketchup is a must!

It is cooked daily, five hours long, with five kilo tomatoes. Hungry fellows can order a double patty and double cheese, the home fries with thyme and rosemary are never a failed choice. Ramen is the new hip comfort food! No matter if it’s summer or winter, a big, steaming ramen bowl is always an attractive lunch or dinner. But Ramen is actually not new, it’s loaded with tradition and goes back to the early 20th century.

Muku Ramen in Sachsenhausen is the ‘King of Ramen’ in Frankfurt. Since 2010 Ayuka and Shinichi Yamamoto have been managing the kitchen of Muku Ramen.

They do this so well that the restaurant is always booked. They also opened two more branches in Japan, in Kofu and Kamakura. Even more impressive – the restaurant caters to the Japanese airline’s First Class and Business class lounges in Frankfurt.

In big pots, in the restaurant kitchen, the pork bone broth is cooking, next to the traditional wooden trays with fresh ramen noodles, ready to take a bath. The prices for the bowls are very reasonable.

13 of the best restaurants in Frankfurt | Le Petit Chef (12)

The Frankfurt Jewish Museum is a highlight in the city’s museums scene and always worth a visit. In January 2023, the new kosher restaurant Life Deli moved in and has surprised visitors with a vegan fusion kitchen of Israeli, East European and Oriental food.

Nir and Sigal Rosenfeld and Janka Krauzpaul operate the deli, hand in hand with chef Boaz Kwinter, who collected pro chef experience in many kitchens over the last 30 years.

The Deli connects different elements of breakfast, lunch and cafe, with coffee and cake, but also the opportunity to buy house made delicacies. The all day Israeli breakfast is either an omelet, with plant based meats or vegetables, or a traditional vegan Shakshuka.

The appetizers include a vegan so-called Joie Gras, a delicious and very impressive imitation of a Foie Gras, based on chestnuts and cashews. The bowls feature Shawarma, Falafel, beautiful stuffed bell pepper, with wild rice and nobody can resist the chocolate halva tarte. For the deli no museum ticket is needed.

Tip #12: Apfelwein Solzer

13 of the best restaurants in Frankfurt | Le Petit Chef (13)

The longstanding tavern is an institution in Frankfurt. Everybody knows Apfelwein Solzer. Since 1893, over 130 years, the winemaker and in the meantime fifth generation of Solzer’s have been making the best apple wine from fresh and first class ingredients.

The restaurant grew over the years to a famous and far over the Frankfurt borders known spot where tourist crowds and locals sit together, young folks enjoy nights with apple wine and families celebrate their loved ones.

A massive outdoor seating area with 300 seats and additional 160 indoor seats, are proof of how many visitors Apfelwein Solzer attracts. Of course it’s important to drink apple wine when you visit, but a very rustic, traditional German meal goes quite excellent with the alcoholic beverage.

Homemade head cheese with vinaigrette, sauce remoulade and fried potatoes, the original Frankfurt ‘green sauce’ with beef brisket and boiled potatoes, or the ‘Frankfurter Sausage’ with potato salad, are as traditional as it can get.

13 of the best restaurants in Frankfurt | Le Petit Chef (14)

Im Herzen Afrikas, translated to ‘In the heart of Africa’, is your Frankfurt hotspot for authentic, culinary delightfulness from Eritrea. And, it’s really like coming to Africa!

Entering the restaurant and dining area, walking through sand, paintings on the walls, old, long wooden tables and clay structure.. Definitely one of the coolest restaurants in Frankfurt!

The cuisine is based on family recipes, but cooked with local ingredients. Even the beer is from the Frankfurt brewer union. The chefs are very well aware of dietary restrictions and pass on using Tesmi (an Eritrean butter) in the kitchen, which makes many of the dishes plant based.

The Injera bread is baked fresh every day, even in a gluten-free version. The restaurant offers mixed plates, with a variety of small eats, served with Injera bread. It’s a culinary and cultural experience to visit the restaurant — and of course, you eat traditionally with your hands.
